With around 17,000 apartments, WGA is the largest cooperative in East Germany. Its residential areas are centrally located between the Elbe and the Großer Garten, as well as in the eastern part of Dresden, offering housing for individual needs. The cooperative is characterized by attractive outdoor areas, experienced staff, and caretakers who ensure order and security. Every member becomes part of an engaged community, with cultural offerings through community centers and family centers.
Enderstraße, Wallotstraße, Zamenhofstraße
The WGA renovated the apartment blocks on Enderstraße 2-42 from 2020 to 2021. Working with the planners from the Cossebaude engineering community, they created stylish and comfortable homes for many tenants. In addition to refurbishing vacant apartments, the balconies were completely renewed, elevators were installed in the stairwells, and all entrances were fitted with new apartment, basement, and house doors. The blocks received spacious vestibules and newly insulated, colorfully designed facades. The outdoor areas were also landscaped and made resident-friendly after the construction phase.
The housing cooperative “Wohnungsgenossenschaft Johannstadt eG” (WGJ)
WGJ owns around 7,800 apartments surrounded by lovingly designed green spaces and outdoor areas. The residential buildings are spread across the Dresden districts of Johannstadt, Striesen, Pirnaische Vorstadt, Seevorstadt-Ost/Großer Garten, and Innere Neustadt. Many WGJ residential buildings are currently being equipped with solar panels.
Pfeifferhannsstraße
From 2020 to 2022, WGJ renovated the buildings at Pfeifferhannsstraße 22 and 24. The barrier-free apartments, mostly equipped with shower baths, are specifically designed to meet the needs of older adults. Following the comprehensive renovation of these 1970s buildings, the massive 11-story apartment block at Pfeifferhannsstraße 10-20, with six entrances, is now also being renovated. The renovations will include installing new windows, doors, and mailboxes.

In cooperation with the creative planners of the Ingenieurgemeinschaft Cossebaude, the facade was completely renewed, equipped with thermal insulation and the balconies were rebuilt. The staircases were repaired and the electrical and sanitary installations in the apartments were renewed. An elevator was retrofitted at some of the building entrances.
